Making Moving Easier

If you have hired a moving truck to come and take your items to your new home, you will want to make the process as easy as possible for the moving company. Having your items prepared and packaged in a way that makes them easy to whisk into a truck would be ideal. Here are some ways that you can help prepare your items to make the entire process easier.

Separating Items

Move your items into piles or different areas in the front room of your home. Separate furniture from boxes so that the moving company can start with the bigger pieces. Have any fragile items in a separate area so that the moving company will know to take special care of these items.

Keep a list of all of the items that you are packing. Numbering boxes or furniture pieces can be a big help in making sure that you have all of your belongings and can help when placing the items in the proper rooms when unpacking.

Furniture

Disassemble as much furniture as you can to make more room in the moving truck. Wrap all items with plastic and tape it on securely. Place all hardware inside a plastic sandwich bag and tape it directly to the furniture item that it belongs to so that it does not become separated inside the moving truck.

Boxes And Bins

Tape all of your boxes shut so that things do not spill out in the truck. Using colored packing tape can be beneficial in separating items. If you use blue for kitchen items and yellow for bedroom items, for example, you will be able to direct the moving company as to which room belongings will need to be placed when it arrives at your new home. This will save your movers time and effort in trying to figure out which room things should be placed.

Breakables

Pack items that are fragile away from your other items. You should wrap things inside bubble wrap to give them a bit of extra cushioning. You can also wrap towels or blankets around items that may break. This will save them from impact, while saving some room when packing. Newspaper to wrap breakables will not really give them enough support. Using plain cardboard boxes will put your items at an extra risk, so use plastic storage bins with lids for an extra layer of protection.
